2019: Female Presidential aspirant asks Buhari to heed Obasanjo's advice

Date: 2018-01-25

A Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential aspirant, Professor Olufunmilayo Adesanya-Davies, has described the advice the former President Olusegun Obasanjo gave President Muhammadu Buhari regarding the 2019 elections as a welcome development.

Obasanjo in a letter on Tuesday advised Buhari against seeking re- election in 2019.

Adesanya-Davies said, "Obasanjo has spoken the truth as it is, to a great friend, so as to encourage president Buhari to forge ahead dedicatedly with his single tenure rather than the need to stage a comeback in 2019.

"To me, once again, Ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo has demonstrated in his statement that he bagged a PhD in Christian Theology from the National Open University, NOUN, sometime last year with a distinction, as it is written in the holy book: "Better is open rebuke than hidden love. Wounds from a friend can be trusted, but an enemy multiplies kisses. Proverbs 27:5-15." May God grant president Buhari the wisdom to listen to a dear friend and brother."

The presidential hopeful, who said that the former president had said the truth, added that there was nothing for her to add.

She also said that the former president had spoken the minds of all reasonable Nigerians, adding that, however,Obasanjo's concept of the need for a Coalition for Nigeria (CN)may also be the way forward.

Adesanya- Davies added that, "former Obasanjo, a two-term president on the platform of People Democratic Party (PDP), had said that, "he feels disappointed by Mr Buhari, whom he supported during the 2015 election over then incumbent and candidate of his former party, Goodluck Jonathan." This indeed is in his candid opinion!

"Mr Obasanjo had written a condemnatory open letter in December 2013 titled "Before it is Too Late" where he highlighted the numerous failings of the Mr Jonathan administration. He is always known to express his feelings as caution as an elder statesman, whenever he deems it necessary with due respect to any government, so instructive, dynamic and commendable. As such, "Likening the state of the nation to lice-invested clothes, he said the country's fingernails are stained with blood as it tries to kill the lice by pressing them in-between two fingernails."

"According to him, "in other to make sure that our fingernails remains blood-free we must do what it takes rid our clothes of lice." He rightly explained with allusion to a Yoruba proverb and this buttresses the point so vividly. "Elder stateman Obasanjo wrote in specific times, and I think there is nothing like great adult rubbing minds truthfully together openly on very serious national issues.
