300 golfers set for Kwara Open

The 2017 Kwara Open Golf Championship has been scheduled to tee off at the Ilorin Golf Club in Ilorin on November 7 . The tournament, which is expected to attract over 300 players, holes out on November 12.

The event's confirmation followed the assurance given by Kwara State Governor Abdufattah Ahmed to the golfing community that the state government was working to restore some key golf events that the state was popular for.

According to the Chief Executive Officer of Sluqfort Nigeria Limited, the consulting firm managing the event, Luqman Owolewa, the event has been prioritised by the state government.

Owolewa said governor promised the Professional Golfers Association of Nigeria that he would ensure that the state plays a major role in the development of golf in the country.

The event is sponsored by the Kwara State Government, BUA Group, Sterling Bank plc, Medview Airlines and Airtel.

The six-day championship will attract professional players from Ghana, Ivory Coast, Togo, Equitorial Guinea and Senegal.

The event will tees off with 72 holes professional round from November 7 November 10 while amateurs players will jostle for honours from November 11 to 12.
