Successful surgical interventions have been carried out on thirty three (3) patients that are suffering from Vesico -vaginal fistula (VVF) at the SOBI Specialist Hospital, Alagbado in Ilorin , the KWARA State capital.

The State commissioner for Health , Alhaji Sulieman ATOLAGBE Alege disclosed this yesterday (Saturday) in Ilorin while featuring on a Radio KWARA health programme "Health Health Hour"

Alhaji ATOLAGBE noted that with the successful surgery carried out on the affected patients, they would now regain their human hood and dignity among members of the public .

According to him , it took the surgeons about seven hours to operate one of the patients with VVF which ended up successfully and commended the surgeons as well as the Country Director for Vistular Plus , Chief Iyeme Efem and Professor Oladosu Ojemgbede of the University College Hospital (UCH) Ibadan for the programme and called for the establishment of a center for the treatment of the disease in the State to take care of the North Central zone of the country.

Answering another question , the commissioner again refuted the rumour that some huge number of people died in a community in the state as a result of a mysterious ailment and appealed to members of the public to always verify their information to guide against causing unnecessary panic and anxiety.

Alhaji Alege said on hearing the rumor , the head of the epidemiological department of the ministry and other health personnel where drafted to the town where the rumored strange disease they claimed happened and they discovered it was untrue.

According to him , the state government has a perfect system of reporting any disease outbreak and commended the state governor , Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed for his prompt action in case of any health outbreak in the state as done during the outbreak of cholera which was well taken care of and nipped on the bud.

On the outbreak of Lassa fever in some states, the commissioner cautioned kwarans against consuming un properly cooked food and drinking unclean water and stressed the need for them to keep a clean environment .
