Kwara to provide solar-powered electricity in villages
Plans are underway to install solar powered electricity in villages across Kwara state.
Meanwhile, the state government has also announced plans to release N900m to contractors for ongoing projects next Monday.
The State Governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed, disclosed this yesterday at the monthly town hall meeting of the All Progressives Congress (APC) held at the Banquet Hall, opposite Government House, Ilorin.
According to the Governor, villages with about five hundred to six hundred population would benefit from the pilot scheme of the project as part of effort to light up Kwara and improve its economy.
Governor Ahmed explained that the plan was to change strategy of providing electricity to communities in the state.
He noted that the government’s effort at providing transformers to communities was not yielding fruitful results due to epileptic power supply, pointing out that the solar powered electricity would guarantee electricity to rural communities in the state.
Governor Ahmed explained that the initiative would complement the ongoing Light Up Kwara project within the state capital and local government headquarters.
The state governor also announced that he has approved the release N900m to contractors handling high value infrastructure projects across the state under its Infrastructure Development Fund (IFK).
Alhaji Ahmed gave the assurance that with the IFK, projects will no longer be abandoned in the state as the scheme guarantees full funding of infrastructure across the state.
According to him, the forthcoming new Campuses for Kwara State University (KWASU) at Osi and Ilesha Baruba will also be funded under IFK.
