Ahmed Orders LGs to Pay Workers Immediately
Gov. Abdulfatah Ahmed of Kwara has directed all local governments in the state to pay the July salaries of their workers without further delay.
This is contained in a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Alhaji Abdulwahab Oba, in Ilorin on Thursday.
The directive followed threats by the council workers to proceed on strike by Friday, Aug.3.
Ahmed said that there was no justification for further delay of the payment of local government workers' salaries since all necessary procedures had been concluded.
He also directed local governments, which had not paid the June salaries to do so immediately.
The governor said that it was grossly unfair for any local government not to pay the June salaries at the end of July.
He said that the State Government was not in any way responsible for such unacceptable lapses.
NAN recalled that the council workers had on July 31 gave Aug. 3 as deadline to commence total strike if salaries and allowances were not paid by local governments in the state.
Meanwhile, the State Government has commenced a fresh round of bio-metric registration in order to capture workers that missed the recently concluded exercise.
Ahmed assured workers in the state of his administration's commitment to the promotion of workers' welfare.
''Workers are critical to the realisation of all the goals of present administration's Shared Prosperity Programme designed to transform Kwara into a model state.''
