Fidel Castro's Death: End of eventful era in int'l politics - Saraki

Date: 2016-11-29

Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki said at the weekend that with the death of ex-Cuban President, Fidel Castro Ruz, the end of an eventful era in international politics has come.

Saraki in statement by his Special Adviser, Media and Publicity, Yusuph Olaniyonu, in Abuja, commiserated with the Cuban Ambassador to Nigeria, the people and government of Cuba over the demise of a great revolutionary leader, describing the death of Fidel Castro Ruz as a colossal loss.

Saraki said, "Late Castro was not only enigmatic as a leader, he was energetic in pursuing his beliefs," He said. "His fiery zeal and audacity in remaking his country, led to his being loved and hated in equal measure by some of his people and neighbours alike. "He held to his beliefs to the end and showed to the world how a leader could shape the fortune of his country for good.

He led Cuba to be a major force in medicine, sports and be self-reliant. One thing is certain; late Castro is not a man one can easily dismiss with a wave of the hand both when he was alive and now in death.

"One thing that cannot be taken from him is his love and passion for his fatherland and the spirited efforts he made to contribute to its development. It can be truly said of him that he seems to have written his epitaph in his famous words: 'condemn me it does not matter. History will absolve me." His likes are now rare." Saraki prayed for the repose of the soul of the great Cuban leader even as he urged President Raul Castro and the immediate family of the deceased to take solace in the fact that Castro lived and died in service to his fatherland.
