The Kwara State Gov­ernment has appealed to the Federal Gov­ernment to commence con­struction work on Ohan and Moro bridges along llorin-lgbeti Road to further aid economic activities with neighbouring states. The state Commissioner for Works and Transport, Alhaji Aro Yahya made the call during an inspection visit to the two bridges on Saturday.

The Commissioner who was accompanied by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Alhaji Alabi Amu­da and other officials of the Ministry expressed displea­sure on the poor conditions of the two bridges.

The Authority on Sun­day reports that the two bridges which have been in bad shape for decades links Kwara and Oke Ogun axis of Oyo State. Meanwhile, the Commis­sioner noted that the condi­tion of the bridges had crip­pled the economic potentials of Kwara and neighbouring states as well as the Republic of Benin.

Yahya said the poor con­dition of the two bridges is affecting the transportation of farm produce to the state capital and other economic activities. The Commissioner said the state government had formed a strong synergy with the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FER­MA) in its bid to ensure that all federal roads in the state are motorable.

The Commissioner and his entourage also inspected ongoing construction work on Adelu bridge in llorin East Local Government area of the state, adding that the construction of the bridge which gulp N30m has reached 75 percent comple­tion.
