2016 admission screening: Unilorin warns candidates against scammers

Date: 2016-08-19

The University of Ilorin yesterday warned admission seekers into the institution against falling prey of racketeers ahead of the 2016/2017 Unified Matriculation Tertiary Examination (UTME) admission screening. The institution said it was not responsible for the admission information procedure purportedly emanating from the University, clarifying that it was the handiwork of scammers.

In a telephone chat with The Herald yesterday, Deputy Director, Corporate Affairs of the University, Mr Kunle Akogun, said the institution was aware of the misleading information and considered it imperative to alert unsuspecting members of the public and applicants into the institution. He said some admission seekers had fallen victims of the dubious information asking them for payment of screening fees.

Akogun said the institution had neither fixed admission procedure fees nor date for the screening. The Deputy Director noted that the University was surprised that despite efforts to sanitize the system some unpatriotic elements still went ahead to defraud members of the public.

He stated that the university would employ the appropriate channel to reach out to the admission applicants on the modalities and procedures for the screening. Akogun called on members of the public to be wary of fraudulent individuals who had plotted to use the forthcoming post-UTME screening to swindle them. He said the university management was working round the clock to reach compromise on the screening process, assuring that the institution would soon finalize arrangement on the process.

"We have been reaching out to the people on our radio that we have not set guidelines for the admission screening. The information going round did not emanate from the University of Ilorin. It was purely the handiwork of racketeers or scammers. The applicants into the institution and members of the public should be wary of such dubious message so that they would not fall victims", Akogun said.
