Muslim group carges Traditional Rulers of fighting Kwara communities to embrace peace

Date: 2016-08-05

Traditional Rulers in two rival communities in Kwara State, Share and Tsaragi, that have been fighting for years over land , have been urged to find ways of bringing lasting peace in the area.

The Muslim Media Watch Group which made call in a statement by its national coordinator, Alhaji Ibrahim Abdullahi, said it was unfortunate that although the two communities are predominantly Muslims, yet they found it hard to live together in peace. The statement follows a renewed threat to peace and stability in the Area prompting the Kwara State Government yesterday to impose a curfew there.

"The Muslim Media Watch Group is saddened that both Communities have large percentage of Muslims in their Area but they are not allowing Islamic teachings to guide their thoughts and actions. "Clashes leading to loss of lives and property in the two areas remain uncountable while millions of Naira property has been "wasted for nothing".

"The two communities Share in Ifelodun Local Government and Tsaragi in Edu Local Government have long history of land dispute which has defied all solutions.

"Several Panels have been constituted by the past and present Governments of Kwara State to find lasting solution to the problem but to no avail. "What is in a land? Who came to this world with any property? Who among the fighters will go back with any portion of land?".
