Oloje community seeks govt. assistance over erosion

Date: 2012-07-06

Indigenes of Oloje community in Ilorin West Local Government Area of Kwara State have appealed to the state government to save them from agony of environmental degradation occasioned by uncontrolled erosion.

The appeal was made in a statement issued by Oloje Youth Development Association (OYDA) and jointly signed by Mogaji of Oloje community, President and General secretary of OYDA; Alhaji Nuhu Rufai, Zulu T. Suleiman and AbdulRaheem O. Babatunde respectively.

The statement read that the erosion has caused a lot of damage and destruction to buildings in the area due to the absence of proper channels that link the major river.

According to the statement, Oloje community is always at the receiving end each time it rains pointing out that the run-off water coming from neighbouring communities find their ways to Oloje community thereby leading to destruction of buildings and property in the community.

The community therefore appealed to Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed to come to their aid by constructing a proper channel for the community.

"We believe that your necessary actions on curbing the effects of run-off at an alarming rate in Oloje community will surely boost the image of your administration by improving environmental sustainability of people in Oloje community and Kwara State as a whole" the statement read in part.
