Kwara CP tasks engineers, scientists on security
Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Chinwike Asadu, has urged Nigerian scientists and engineers to contribute their own quota to the efforts to check insecurity in the country.
Asadu, who was represented by the spokesman for the police in the state, Mr. Fabode Olufemi, at a security summit in Ilorin on Thursday, said there was the need for collaborative efforts by Nigerians to protect lives and property in the country.
According to him, local scientists and engineers can help with devices that will assist the security agencies in the fight against crime and violence.
Chief Executive Officer, Contrivances Engineering Ltd, Mr. Olusanya Elisha, said the SOS Nigeria device would help in reducing kidnapping, assist during threats to individual lives and property as well as help medical emergencies and fire control services.
He added that it would improve the operational efficiency of the police and the Federal Road Safety Corps.
Elisha said, "This is not just a safety utility application. We have also integrated sim change notification anti-theft feature, in which case, even if one is dispossessed of his phone or someone is kidnapped with phone, you can keep reaching out the phone; as soon as you track the phone, you are also tracking the assailant and the person that has been kidnapped."
According to him, the device has Google approval and Samsung certification.
Kwara State Chairman of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, Mr. Malik Kamila, urged the federal and state governments to provide infrastructure and service support for the effective utilisation of the gains of the invention.
According to him, there is the need for engineers and scientists to come up with inventions that will improve security, aid business and industrial development.
