Assets declaration: Saraki's CCT trial continues tomorrow
The trial of Senate President, Dr. Bukola Abubakar Saraki, over alleged false assets declaration and corruption will continue tomorrow before the chairman of the Code of Conduct Tribunal, Justice Danladi Umar.
The tribunal had granted him an adjournment for his counsel to confer with him and take further instructions as regards the amended charges filed by the prosecution. Saraki was earlier facing a 13-count criminal charge but it has now been amended to 16-count charge.
Count 14 alleged that the defendant did not declare his interest in a credit card. This came out after the cross examination of the first prosecution witness on charge 11 and 12 while count 16 is a completely new charge.
However, Saraki pleaded not guilty to the 16 amended charge filed by the prosecution. Based on the amended charge, the tribunal adjourned till May 10 for continuation of trial.
Saraki had filed a motion seeking the tribunal chairman to disqualify himself on ground that Umar is under the investigation of the EFCC over an alleged N10 million bribe. The tribunal chairman refused to disqualify himself and Saraki has appealed against the refusal.
