Nigeria: Kwara Set to Tackle Youths Unemployment
As part of efforts to tackle youths unemployment in Kwara state, the state government has concluded arrangement to ensure the official commissioning of the International Vocational Center located at Ajase-Ipo in Irepodun local government council of the state this year.
?The state commissioner for Education, Alhaji Musa Yeketi, disclosed this on Thursday while addressing journalists after the end of the meeting of the state executive council held at Government House, Ilorin.
He said that, the gesture would go a long way of assisting the government to meet the need to improve the skills acquisition of the youths so as to reduce youths unemployment ?in the state.
According to him,"the center is completed but only need to be equipped by with modern day equipment which we are now importing from Overseas".
He explained that, "the dwindling revenue of the state has hindered the official commissioning and once the finances of the government improves, the center will be fully equipped and commission for proper use of the students".
The commissioner further said that the technical schools in the state would be upgraded in order to meet the needs of the students for the optimum result.
He said, "apart from City and Guilds certificate being offered at the end of the programme, Grade two and three labour test will now be offering students after the completion of their programme in the affected technical schools in the state". He also said that the gifted and talented schools will be established across the three senatorial districts of the state.
This, he said, would go a long way of motivating schools and pupils to be up and doing in their various academic programme.Also, in her comment, the state commissioner for Women Affairs, Alhaja Ayinke Saka said that the state government has merged the ministry with Social Development. This, she said, would assist the government to take full responsibilities of any issues bothering on women and children up keep.
Alhaja Saka however called on women and children in the state to shun any act that may affect their social life in order to assist then contribute their quota towards the growth of the society.
