Gridlock: Kwara Poly, UITH Staff Tasked On Special Marshal Roles
Authorities of the Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin, have been charged to encourage their staffers and those of the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH) to perform roles of special marshals as a measure to end the daily gridlocks on their route.
The two institutions are located along Ilorin-Old jebba-road where motorists daily experience during peak period in the morning and closing hours in the afternoon. The new Chief Security Officer of the Polytechnic, Major Abdullateef Dele Olaitan (retd), gave the advice while addressing the academic and non-academic staff of the institution during the Polytechnic Assembly held recently.
Olaitan urged the Management to liaise with that of the UITH to ensure that some of the staff of both institutions performed "this task every morning" to reduce the hardship being experienced by the road users. He urged motorists plying the road to always obey traffic rules and be conscious of other road users.
On the issue of security of lives and property within the two campuses of the Polytechnic, the CSO urged staff to give necessary information to the security operatives in the institution to assist them in the discharge of their duties effectively. He disclosed that the importance of information gathering to any security outfit cannot be over-emphasised, thus, urged all staff to always be vigilant at all times.
He added that since security of lives and property on the campus is the responsibility of all, staff must be ready to check the students and give corrections where necessary, especially in terms of good moral conduct and dressing.
"Staff must be prepared to check and be checked as well as ensure that sanctions are enforced where necessary. This is the best way to ensure that rules and regulations are obeyed."
