Unilorin, a model for other Nigerian varsities - Publisher
The Publisher of Youth Spring Magazine, Mr. Olusegun Adebayo, has said that the education sector in the country would excel if the country has more universities like the University of Ilorin.
Mr. Adebayo made this submission last Tuesday (January 27, 2016) when he visited the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. AbdulGaniyu Ambali (OON), in his office. The Youth Spring Publisher, who donated 500 copies of some past editions of the magazine to the University during the visit, said, "This is a University where students behave decently and are assured of graduating at the stated time. This University is good for the society and the country needs universities like this to educate the black race". He added, "We are proud of the University. You are already on the global map"
Mr. Adebayo pointed out that the University has a good foundation, adding that no one could afford not to be a friend of such University. The Youth Spring Publisher then commended Prof. Ambali, whom he described as a mentor of the youth. "You are a father to emulate", he stated.
In his response, the Vice-Chancellor appreciated the Publisher of the Youth Spring magazine for his donation and sweet words for the University, saying, "We have benefitted from people like you who observe us critically and offer us advice. Thank you for your observations, it will help us to do more". Commending the contributions of the staff of the University to make the University what it is today, Prof. Ambali said, "I want to leave the University better than I met it. That is why we have invested heavily in infrastructural development, staff development and the raising of disciplined students". Prof. Ambali told the publisher that the University of Ilorin places high premium on moral and academic knowledge, saying that "the best we can give Nigeria is to train the youths to be good Nigerians".
He said, "We are the parents of the students and we take that responsibility seriously", explaining that the University of Ilorin has been the most subscribed University in Nigeria in the last three years because of consistent academic calendar, good moral and academic training and serene environment. With the Vice-Chancellor during the visit were the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (RTI), Prof. Gabriel Olatunji; the Deputy Bursar, Mr. Munirudeen Dere; the Ag. Head of the Department of Mass Communication, Dr. (Mrs.) Saudat Abdulbaqi; the Deputy Director, Corporate Affairs, Mr. Kunle Akogun; and the Principal Assistant Registrar in the Vice-Chancellor's Office, Mr. A. Sayuti.
