The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. AbdulGaniyu Ambali (OON), has commended the University Drone Team for doing the institution proud during the institution's recent 40th Anniversary/31st Convocation.

Prof. Ambali gave the commendation last Friday (January 8, 2016) when the Team, headed by Prof. Sulyman Abdulkareem, visited him in his office.

The Vice-Chancellor pledged that the University would do everything humanly possible to embark on aggressive inventory mission, using the University's researchers across various disciplines as drivers to achieve technological breakthrough.

Prof. Ambali particularly commended the team for doing the institution proud with their display of commitment, which practically gave birth to the successful flying of the drones during the convocation ceremony. He ascribed the success stories of the team to the adoption of team work, which, he said, necessitated its successful operation.

The Vice-Chancellor said that the management and staff of the University Ilorin stand tall in integrity, professional in practice and very high in ethics and standards.

He pledged the readiness of the University authority to support and assist the team and other researchers who are working round the clock to take the institution to the limelight through their invaluable contributions.

Earlier in his address, the Chairman of the Unilorin Drone Team, Prof. Abdulkareem, thanked the University authority for giving the team the privilege to serve the institution in that capacity and attributed the success of the Team to the kind support it received from the University management.

Prof. Abdulkareem, who is the immediate past Vice-Chancellor of Al-Hikmah University, Ilorin, and a Professor of Chemical Engineering, said that the University of Ilorin Drone Team is made up of 14 people cutting across disciplines.

He said that the mandate of the team was to "fly 11 drones that were purchased for the University to capture the area and impression of everything that was going on during the last convocation ceremony and we were able to do that from the University Gate up to the Main Auditorium where the event took place".
