Flood: Vacate river banks, Kwara govt. directs residents
Amidst reports of imminent flooding, the Kwara Government on Monday directed residents of the state living on river banks to vacate such areas.
The Special Adviser on Emergency and Relief services, Alhaji Abdullahi Duro-Mohammed, gave the warning when he visited some flood-prone areas in llorin.
Duro-Mohammed said the warning followed the recent Federal Government directive that water would soon be released from various dams.
He said the gradual release of water from dams and the expected heavy rain might lead to flooding.
The special adviser said the state government would establish strong synergy with the Federal Government to ensure quick completion of the ongoing channelisation and dredging projects.
He said the state government was deeply concerned about the loss of lives and property as well as negative environmental consequences which accompany floods.
The governor's aide, however, advised residents, especially those living in flood-prone areas, to desist from dumping refuse inside water channels.
Duro-Mohammed, who was accompanied on the visit by the Special Adviser on Labour Matters, Mr Hassan Gobir, visited Taiwo road, lsale Asa, lsale Koko and Unity road.
