Kwara gov pays condolence visit on family of slain protester
ILORIN—The Kwara State Governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed yesterday paid a condolence visit to the family of victim of last Tuesday protest in Ilorin over the removal of fuel subsidy, late Muhydeen Mustapha.
Mustapha, 23, was allegedly killed by the police while dispersing the protesters.
"The death of Muhydeen was particularly painful to the state because at that youthful age, he had a bright future and would have become another glory of the State just like any other promising youth", the governor told the family.
The Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, Ilorin branch has called on the Inspector General of Police to investigate the death of Mustapha just as the National Congress of Nigerian Students, NCNS, condemned the killing of the protester.
Meanwhile, kwara State police command has arrested 16 suspects as a result of another round of violence in Ilorin, during which butchers rose against each other over the slaughtering of cows during the ongoing protest.

Vanguard learnt that three people sustained serious injuries as a result of the confrontation between the two groups.
This development led to panic in areas like Ipata and Zango, the two popular markets for slaughtered cows in the metropolis as shops and other businesses places in the areas were hurriedly closed.
The police confirmed the development saying that order has been restored and urged members of the public to go about their normal and legitimate business.
Meanwhile, during the condolence visit to the family of Alhaji Mustapha Oke-Odo on the death of their son, Governor Ahmed pleaded with Nigerians to embrace peace.
"The current travail is transient. With collective zeal and determination to succeed, we shall survive it.
"We have more to gain by embracing peace and dialogue rather than violence which ultimately affects the people we are suppose to be agitating for", the Governor said.
