Kwara United not giving up on continental ticket
Nigeria Professional Football League side Kwara United have insisted that they not giving up hope of qualifying for the Caf Champions League or Confederation Cup just yet.
The Ilorin based side were somewhat surprisingly defeated 1-0 by Giwa FC in Sunday's NPFL encounter in Jos as their top-three ambitions were dealt another blow.
Additionally, they face a tough task to qualify for African club football's elite competition by winning the Federation Cup after losing 3-2 to Enugu Rangers in the quarter final.
Nevertheless, media officer of the team Yinka Owolewa has said his side will keep giving their all as he feels everything is still possible.
"Not minding the fact that we lost many games in the league, we have not gone beyond the 17th position on the log and this means we are not threatened by relegation," Owolewa told Goal.
"Enyimba sit atop the league with 37 points and we are 15th with 23 points, and that is about 14 points difference between us and we will still face them in the league.
"The league is very open that you can go anywhere and win. Ifeanyi Ubah was fourth on the log when we defeated them, same as Giwa who were occupying the fourth position before we caged them in Ilorin.
"Our dream is to play on the continent and we are not giving up on that - they league is still very open and we are still very much in the race."
Kwara United have lost most games at home this season and will battle relegation strugglers, Dolphins and the soft-spoken spokesman is sure of victory in Ilorin on Wednesday.
"It is quite unfortunate that we have lost quite a number of games at home this season. On the other hand, we have not been doing badly on the road with a win and two draws," he continued.
"Judging from our recent games, you would agree with me that we have improved greatly.
"We faced them [Dolphins] at the beginning of the season and come Wednesday, we will be gunning for nothing lesser than victory - and that we will be taking to El Kanemi where we are also targeting the maximum points.
"On good thing is that we will be welcoming some of our key players like Dare Ojo who missed the Giwa trip owing to suspension same as our captain Akeem Onigbari. Adeshina Gata and Ahmed Jimoh will also be on parade on Wednesday," he concluded.
