Church of Nigeria will not allow same sex marriage, says bishop

Date: 2015-07-29

THE Bishop of Church of Nigeria Anglican Communion, Omu Aran, Kwara Diocese, Rt. Rev. Philip Adeyemi, yesterday said the church in Nigeria would never be a signatory to same sex marriages, especially in Nigeria. Speaking at the Trinity Ordination with Collation of an Archdeacon of the Church in Omu Aran yesterday, Rt. Rev. Adeyemi said marriages between members of the same sex was not only satanic but antithetical to the survival of human race.

"As a church we shall not bend to the whims and caprices of that wicked doctrine in Nigeria. Anyone who follows this evil way is changing God's plan for the spread and growth of humanity""

The Bishop therefore, praised the efforts of President Muhammadu Buhari over his stance against the same sex marriage, advising him to sustain his position, as God would one day vindicate him on it.

The clergy, who commended the Kwara state government on infrastructural development efforts in the Ilorin metropolis, which had resulted in motorable roads in most parts of the state capital, said such gesture should be extended to the rural agrarian areas of the state to enhance food production and transportation.

Besides, urged the state government to create more employment opportunities for teeming unemployed youth in the state, particularly, those in the grassroots areas to discourage rural-urban migration.

The diocesan bishop, who commended the anti-graft steps and activities so far, carried out by President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration, prayed God to assist the federal government to achieve people-oriented programmes.

He, however, charged the President to follow due process and rule of law in the process of wiping out corruption, adding that he should discourage witch-hunting, "because we know him as a man of integrity," he said.

The clergy, who said the diocese of the church condemned homosexuality in all forms, added that God did not make any mistake in creating man and woman, adding that practice of homosexuality is a curse.
