Emeritus Professor of Public Finance at the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria, Halidu Ibrahim Abubakar, was yesterday turbaned the 28th Emir of Ilesha Baruba in Baruten LGA of Kwara State.

At the ceremony held at Ilesha Baruba, the emir adopted 'Sabi Dekureku IV' as his title.

He succeeds his immediate elder brother who died on October 30, 2014. Daily Trust learnt that the new emir polled three out of the five votes cast by the king makers to defeat others during the selection process held in December 2014.

Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed had penultimate week approved his appointment and three other new traditional rulers based on the recommendations of kingmakers from respective communities.

In his address, Abubakar who is the Chairman of Harmony Holdings Limited, Ilorin and a member of the Governing Council of Kwara State University (KWASU) thanked other contestants for for embracing peace. He sought the support and cooperation of his subjects in an effort to develop the community.

"My message to my people is that they should give me necessary support. I have the passion and the commitment to developing my own community. Without their support and participation, there is nothing I can achieve", the retired varsity don said.
