Kwara lost N2.5bn investment to litigation - Gov
The Kwara State Governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed, has said the state missed a N2.5bn investment because of litigation from community members.
He said a private investor from Lagos had wanted to invest in an Amusement Park in Ilorin, but did not do so because of pending litigation.
He spoke when the leadership of Ilorin Emirate Descendants Progressive Union, paid him a courtesy visit in Ilorin on Friday.
IEDPU also presented a position paper to Ahmed on the developmental agenda for the community in the next four years.
The governor called on community development associations to ensure that they remain insulated from partisan politics.
He said they should remain as complementary partners in attracting infrastructural developments and opportunities to their communities.
Noting that such associations must remain apolitical, Ahmed said that as agents of community development, they must ensure that politicking was not stretched to the limit at the expense of development and growth of the community.
He said, " N2.5bn which would have been invested in the Amusement Park in Ilorin to generate more employment opportunities for our youths was diverted."
According to the governor, the economic reality is that government no longer has the capacity for involvement in business, but in providing the right environment for economic growth.
He added that globally, governments were de-investing in business by concentrating on critical areas like provision of infrastructure, health services, security, energy and schools.
The National President of IEDPU, Alhaji AbdulHameed Adi, said the position paper presented by the association centred on critical areas like security, health, job creation, land matters among others.
Adi also said the Union was in support of the candidature of the former governor of the state Dr. Bukola Saraki for the President of the Senate of the 8th National Assembly.
