Jonathan: Chairman's absence hindering character commission

Date: 2015-05-01

President Goodluck Jonathan has decried that the Federal Character Commission (FCC) has not been visible lately.

He spoke at the State House, Abuja, yesterday after swearing in Toye Olofintuyi as a commissioner of the Federal Civil Service Commission and Abudullahi Shinkafi as a commissioner of the FCC.

Jonathan, who noted that the absence of a chairman might be hindering the activities of the character commission pledged to appoint a new chairman mission as soon as possible.

It is recalled that Prof. Shuaibu Oba Abdulraheem resigned late last year as the FCC chairman to contest the gubernatorial primaries of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State.

The president charged the character commission to be up and doing in its activities by working towards sustaining Nigeria's unity and urged the two new commissioners to bring their wealth of experience to bear in their new assignments.
