Kwara PDP women leader resigns, follows Gbemi to APC

Date: 2015-03-29

As a fall out of the purported defection of Senator Gbemisola Saraki from Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to All Progressives Congress (APC), the state PDP women leader, Hajia Nimota Sulaiman has announced her resignation from the party.

Hajia Nimota is a famous associate of Gbemi Saraki who was elected the PDP women leader during the party's state congress last year.

Our correspondent reports that though Gbemi had not declared publicly that she had dumped the PDP, she told her supporters on Friday to vote for APC in Saturday's presidential election.

All efforts to speak with Gbemi Saraki on her defection proved abortive as she refused to speak to the press on Saturday when she came to cast her vote at Ode Opobiyi polling unit.

Below is the text of her resignation letter

I hereby announce my resignation as the Women Leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State.

This resignation is sequel to the defection of my leader, Sen. Gbemisola Rukayah Saraki from the PDP in Kwara State to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Since Sen. Gbemi Saraki instructed her supporters to vote massively for the APC in the state, I have come to the realisation that my membership of the PDP has become untenable.

Therefore, in fidelity to her ideology and in solidarity with her political leadership, I Hon. Nimota Suleiman, this day, cease to be the State Women Leader and member of the PDP in Kwara State.

Thank you Hon. Nimota Suleiman
