Emir of Ilorin backs Ajibola's PDP candidature
The Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Gambari has described the emergence of Senator Simeon Ajibola as PDP Governorship Flag Bearer in Kwara as sign of good things to come to the State.
The Emir stated this over the weekend in Ilorin when Senator Ajibola on his home coming paid the royal father homage at his palace for blessings.
Gambari who hailed the transparency of the PDP internal democratic process through which Ajibola emerged commended the choice Alhaji Yinka Aluko from the Kwara Central Senatorial District as Ajibola's running mate.
The Emir also described Senator Ajibola's Governorship Candidature as good for power rotation in the State.
According to the Emir, it was good that the Flag Bearer was not imposed but elected by majority of delegates across the 193 wards and 16 LGAs in Kwara.
Gambari noted that Ajibola's candidature was an indication that Kwara was gradually evolving as one harmonious family joining hands to move the State forward.
"That is the beauty in democracy and what Ajibola's emergence and his co-contestants' support have demonstrated", the Emir said.
The Emir said his desire to unite Kwara into State of Harmony informed amendment informed the Changing of descendants association from 'Ilorin Descendants Progressives Union',( IDPU) to 'Ilorin Emirate Descendants Progressives Union'.
Gambari jokingly said he was as much as a bona fide ‘son of the soil’ of Igbomina/Ekiti and Ibolo lands in the Kwara South as he was full born Ilorin indigene.
"Ajibola cannot lay more claim to be an Ekiti or Igbomina man than my humble self because I spent my formative years in the Kwara South for close to a decade.
"I started my Primary School at Omu-Aran, headquarters of Irepodun LGA for four years and thereafter proceeded to Offa Grammar School, Offa and spent another four years there.
"As I am on this Ilorin throne, I have a street named after me in Offa as indication of son of the soil of the community", the Emir said.
The Emir Who doubled as Chairman of Kwara State Traditional Council, said the beauty of democracy was ability to tolerate one another and accommodate different tendencies irrespective of creed, birth place and political affiliation.
The Emir commended PDP leaders for resolving grievances and crisis that trailed the primaries by uniting co-contestants behind winners as one family to allow peace and harmony reign in Kwara.
Gambari declared that it was in the interest of peace, progress, socioeconomic transformation and development to have many leaders come from different towns of the State.
"The more rich ones come from different parts of the State the better, for community or State cannot develop at reasonable pace under one man dominated democracy or a rich man.
"Rapid socioeconomic transformation and development come to a place and the State when many people come from different parts of the State to contribute and invest their resources".
Earlier, Senator Ajibola said he was at the Palace for royal blessing as the Emir was the first on the list to pay homage as farther of all in Kwara State.
Ajibola was accompanied on his homecoming by some of his co-contestants in representative capacity of all other Governorship aspirants under PDP in Kwara.
Professor Oba Abdulraheem, a co contestants and the immediate past Chairman Federal Character Commission said they accompanied Ajibola to demonstrate that his emergence has united them rather than tearing PDP family apart in Kwara.
The former university of Ilorin Vice Chancellor who was one of Ajibola's Co-contestants from Ilorin West LGA and Kwara Central said all other Contestants have queued behind Ajibola to rescue Kwara from slavery, socioeconomic and political bondage and one man dominated democracy.
Others on his entourage were Deacon John Dara from Kwara South, Arc Kale Belgore from the Central while Others were excused on grounds that they were busy elsewhere on the Party affairs and with the consent of all.
Ajibola was led to the Palace by the State Chairman of the Party, Akogun Iyiola Oyedepo accompanied by other members of the State Executive, Party Elders and Party Ward and LGAs Executives, Assembly Flag Bearers and party faithful.
