2015: Aggrieved supporters of our dynasty misled - Saraki...As Atunwa, Amuda-Kannike, others win APC Reps seats

Date: 2014-12-08

Ex-Governor of Kwara State, Senator Abubakar Bukola Saraki delared yesterday in Ilorin, that the hitherto supporters of Saraki dynasty who decided to pitch tent with the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) were misled on the guise of internal democracy.

He said the criticism that characterized the conduct of the PDP congresses in the state showed that the party does not practice what it preaches.

Addressing newsmen shortly after voting at the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election for Asa/Ilorin West Federal Constituency seat held at the playing ground of Baboko Community Secondary School Ilorin, Saraki said it was clear that those who aligned with the opposition were full of regret.

Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Barrister Razak Atunwa, was the only aspirant at the primary and had been declared winner of the election. Saraki told newsmen that the door of the APC was open for those who wished to return to the fold.

He urged the electorate not to be deceived by the antics of the opposition, asking them to vote massively for the APC in 2015.

He said, "In Kwara, we are lucky that we have always been the party that preaches non-violence and that has been for many years, from the days of our own great father (late Olusola Saraki) till now. The only time you see violence is from the other side. And for Kwarans too, we are peace loving people. Nobody wants to associate with the party that supports or promotes violence. For as long as people of Kwara continue to be with us, we will have peace here. The other (opposition) doesn't want peace in this State.

"It is clear that as much as they shout about internal democracy, there is no internal democracy. When you start changing the venue on the day of event, changing delegates list on the day of event or locking people out on the day of event, where is democracy?

"As far as we are concerned, we are preparing for the February (2015) elections. For Kwarans, they can see. The events are speaking for themselves. They can compare the night and day. It is clear where the light is and where the darkness is. Every single primary they (PDP) have done, it is always met with chaos.

"For some of our members who were deceived or misled in going there looking for internal democracy, I think they have seen for themselves. We should advise them to come back home where they belong and continue in the journey with our people", Saraki said.

Meanwhile, the primary for Asa/Ilorin West went on peacefully with 846 delegates casting their votes devoid of any intimidation.

The Herald correspondent reports that the election commenced around 12 noon after accreditation of delegates from the two council areas, which formed the Federal Constituency.

Delegates from Ilorin West kicked off the voting exercise and subsequently followed by delegates from Asa.

Speaking at the primary, the Chairman APC 2014 Senate/House of Representatives Primary Election Committee in Kwara, Chief Harry Osha, described the election as a reflection of maturity, which had dovetailed elections of APC in the country. Similarly at Oke-Oyi, the venue of primary for Ilorin East/South Federal Constituency, where Dr Abubakar Amuda-Kannike emerged as the APC standard-bearer, the Committee chairman said the way the election was conducted, showed the readiness of the party to take over in 2015 polls.

He noted that if such was sustained within the fold of the APC, the change the party preaches would become a reality.

Speaking to newsmen, Amuda-Kannike said the primary was peacefully organised and promised to be in close touch with his people if given the mandate in the coming polls.

He said APC politicians in Kwara would continue to be the benchmark for peaceful democratic process.
