Kwara partners US firm on waste management

Date: 2010-06-25

An American company, Power House Energy Africa, is to work with the Kwara State government to establish a waste-to-energy plant, under a public-private partnership agreement.

The president of the company, Mr Femi Ogun, made this known in Ilorin at a formal demonstration of the workings of the plant to a cross-section of stakeholders drawn from the state ministries of Energy, Environment, Finance, Planning and Economic Development, as well as the state Bureau of Lands.

Mr Ogun explained that the company would make use of an environment-friendly pyromex ultra-high temperature gasification process, which, he explained, uses an induction system similar to microwave technology instead of the burning system.

The president said the process would also use sustainable means to generate power by making use of common household and industrial wastes such as food stuff, plastics, human and animal waste, used tyres and sanitary waste, among others.

He assured that this process would not lead to any pollution while it requires lower cost of investment, operating and maintenance cost.
