OPINION - Primaries: As Bola Shagaya Throws Kwara PDP Into Needless Crises. By Almaroof Aliagan Adebisi

Date: 2014-12-01

A serious crises that set to collapse the PDP in Kwara State is brewing with 12 Gubernatorial Aspirants; all foundation members of the PDP are now set to plot against Dele Belgore an APC renegade who Hajia Bola Shagaya has been touting as the anointed candidate of President Goodluck Jonathan in the coming governorship election in Kwara state. The ploy by Shagaya, to all discerning PDP members in Kwara is to drop Jonathan’s name to intimidate other candidates towards lowering their guards for Belgore.

There are grave dangers if great caution is not applied as the development looks as good as giving APC an easy run in the February 2015 general elections. Except the protagonists of imposition quickly begin to retrace steps by allowing democracy to usher in the preferred popular choice as PDP’s Governorship Candidate for Kwara, members of PDP in the state may have to kiss the governorship slot good bye for now.

In short, the unfolding events may be the beginning of the end for PDP.

The foundation for the current crisis was laid at the State Congress of 14th April, 2014 that produced the current State Executive Committee led by Chief Iyiola Oyedepo who was at the time 2months old in PDP.

Oyedepo crossed from ACN which metamorphosed into APC and ended in PDP. His election was controversial on the grounds it was marred by electoral malpractices apart from a flagrant breach of the PDP Constitution that forbids new entrants to stand elections only with Waivers granted by National Executive Committee (NEC).

Oyedepo never applied or obtained such Waiver before standing for the election. That is a point of fresh controversy in the Party as the point is being reopened in the Law Courts by the challenger Hon. Bode Ojomu one time Ag, National Publicity Secretary who we gather still insists he won the election free and square.

There are reports that Ojomu said much to the Haliru Mohammed led North Central Zone PDP Reconciliation Committee on the charade done by Congress Committee. Strategic deft political moves are on to take out Iyiola Oyedepo as State Chairman to abort what is now coded APC Agenda in the Kwara PDP. Whereas the majority in PDP are the ‘originals’ PDP as they call it while the minority are the ‘Bukola le’nde’ APC decampees with very strong dichotomy lately.

There have been complaints by Party Stalwarts that the 2002 scenario is playing out when the Sarakis were eased out of APP by Governor Lawal and a take-over of PDP by Saraki was masterminded by Atiku to chase out house owners away for strangers who turned vicious against original PDP for 11years until its exit last year to APC.

On this fresh crisis the crux of the matter is the ‘playing god’ posture of Muinat Bola Shagaya who has been intimidating each of the 12 PDP Governorship Aspirants with claims that Mr. President has ceded Kwara State to her and therefore would not allow anyone she could not assume the Governorship position in Kwara State.

Flowing from this ‘Lord of the Manor’ posturing, it goes without saying that since Mr. President had endorsed Dele Belgore, all other contenders must hands off without contest and step down for the ‘heroic crowning’ of her lackey as the unopposed PDP Flagbearer in line with the President’s wish.

The contentious issues in Kwara Politics are the clamour for freedom that rents the air at every political gatherings and resistance to a substitution of the 1st slave driver (Sarakis) with a 2nd slave driver (Bola Shagaya). The question is; did the President endorsed Dele Belgore? .Or is it name dropping or impersonation of the President by Bola Shagaya?

President Jonathan who they have been ascribing all acts of illegality to has been advocating One Man, One Vote. He has been clamouring that ‘Votes Must Count’. If that is the case, Why allow Aspirants to buy expensive nomination Forms and after all, foil full process that should leads to the Party Primaries?.

If no Aspirant step down what happens? Would 12 original PDP Gubernatorial Gladiators cave in for an unpopular APC turn coat and renegade who is latching on to an uncanny privilege of imposition without regards to geo-political zoning and equity?.

All these posers are the roadmap to political explosion that is set to rock the PDP in Kwara state.

Chief Almaroof Aliagan Adebisi, an APC Stalwart sent this piece from Kwara.
