Date: 2010-10-04

Local Government Council Chairmen in Kwara State have been put on alert to focus only on urgent key projects that could still be completed between now and the end of their tenure by October ending.

The State Governor, Dr Bukola Saraki gave the charge on Monday at a meeting held with the Chairmen at the Council Chambers of Government House, Ilorin .

The governor, who had earlier thanked them for the services rendered at their various council areas to uplift the standard of living of the people, urged the council bosses to provide feedback on certain pressing issues requiring urgent attention before the expiration of their tenure.

The meeting, which was conveyed at the instance of the governor, was to brainstorm on urgent key issues still waiting for executive approval with a view to making impact on the lives of the people at the grassroots level.

I want us to discuss issues bothering on Local Government now that we are approaching the end of your tenure 2007/2010, you have all played key roles in raising the standard of living of your people and I commend you for that, the governor said.

He also praised them for laying a solid foundation in their respective councils and what they have been able to achieve so far, stressing that no political office holder could complete all projects embarked upon during his tenure.

He then reminded them, that, having served in that capacity they have become leaders of their respective local government areas and they should be prepared and ready to offer their services to their people even after their tenure.

Expressing appreciation to the chairmen on behalf of the State Government for their various contributions to the development of the State, Dr Saraki however called for a review of all completed and on-going projects to ascertain a few ones that could still be approved and completed within the remaining period of their tenure.

He, therefore, wished those seeking re-election the best of luck in their re-election bid.
