Students commend Governor Ahmed for Palliatives

Date: 2012-01-27

Kwara State Governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed has been commended for implementing palliatives to cushion the effect of fuel price increase on the people of the state. The governor received the commendation today from a delegation of student bodies which called on him at Government House, Ilorin.
Led by the Senate President of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Kolade Olaoluwa, the delegation which included the President of the state chapter of the association, Shakiru Akorede and President of National Association of Kwara State Students, B. Abubakar, thanked the Governor for reducing fees at Kwara State University and for providing six buses to ply routes to Unilorin, KWASU and Kwara State Polytechnic.

Governor Ahmed was also applauded the governor’s decision to abolish fees at the senior secondary schools and for providing ten free notebooks for all secondary schools in the state per session. The students commended the governor for willingly reducing fees at the university at a time when other governors who claimed to be progressives were increasing fees and were yet to implement similar welfare packages.

Responding, Governor Ahmed described youths as the leaders of tomorrow whose path to greatness must be smoothed through youth-friendly government policies. Commending the students for their peaceful conduct of anti-subsidy removal protests in the state, Ahmed advised the students to always opt for dialogue rather than violence in see. Governor Ahmed said the palliatives were just the beginning of his administration’s efforts to improve the well-being of Kwarans, adding that government will continue to review the situation and come up with policies to make life easier for people.
