20 people, 50 buildings lost to tanker inferno in Kwara
NOT fewer than 20 persons, 50 buildings, cows and other property worth millions of naira were reportedly lost to inferno in Bode Saadu, a commercial transit town in Moro Local Government Area of Kwara State, on Monday night, when a tanker, laden with petroleum product, fell on its side, igniting fire.
The eyewitness account also said many people sustained injuries in the lone accident, which occurred at about 9.30 p.m, while it was said the fire was still raging as of Tuesday morning.
However, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) said eight people were affected, out of which four died.
It was also gathered that the accident resulting in the inferno was caused by agelong bad Jebba-Mokwa Road, as several auto accidents on the road had caused loss of human lives and valuables, without any attention paid to its repair.
It was also gathered that some corpses and victims of the incident had been taken to the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH).
Spokesman for the UITH, Hassan Kadiri, said the injured four, who were brought to the hospital had suffered about 85 degree burns and were already being transferred to different clinics after initial treatment at the Accident and Emergency Unit of the hospital.
He also said those who sustained injuries were many, as there were still others yet to be transferred to the hospital from the accident scene, adding that the state government had pledged to offset bills of the victims.
