Vote PDP for continuity of government programmes at the grassroot - Governor Saraki

Date: 2010-10-22

The Kwara State Governor, Dr Bukola Saraki has called on the people of Kwara North Senatorial District to vote massively for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in this month’s Local Government election to ensure continuity of government programmes at the grassroots level.

Dr Saraki made the call, Friday at Lafiagi, headquarters of Edu Local Government Area during an interactive session with PDP ward executives, party leaders and supporters in Kwara North.

The governor, who enjoined the people of the area to troupe out enmass on Saturday to perform their civic duty, also told them to show their concern for the party and the nominated representatives of the party at the local government election.

Speaking on membership cards, he said all bonafide party members should obtain their membership cards including new members and directed ward executives to go back to their wards and work for the progress of the party.

Dr Saraki thanked the people of the area for their support to his administration and the party and urged them to support his presidential ambition, noting that the glory was for the entire Kwarans and not himself alone.

He later presented the chairmanship aspirants for Moro, Edu, Patigi, Kaiama and Baruten local governments to the people of the area in the Saturday local government election.

Saraki, who had earlier paid a courtesy call on the Emir of Lafiagi, Alhaji Saad Kawu Haliru to receive his royal blessings, expressed appreciation to him for his support and fatherly advice at all times.

He also assured him of his commitment to the wellbeing of traditional rulers in the state in view of their respected positions as custodians of our customs and traditions.

In his brief remark, the Emir thanked the governor for coming to Lafiagi and assured him of the total support of his people.

Alhaji Haliru appealed to him for the construction of drainage on both sides of the road from Gbugbu to Lafiagi as well as construction of a library in his name at College of Education (Technical), Lafiagi.

Also speaking at the interactive session, the Kwara North Senatorial District Chairman of the party, Alhaji Isiaka Oniwa urged the people of the district to support whoever is presented as the party’s gubernatorial flabearer by the governor and get registered to be able to participate at the elections.

Oniwa also appealed to party members to keep their voters’ cards safely, saying it is the only document that would qualify them to vote during the local government election and the subsequent elections.
