Kwara Accountant-General becomes ICAN chairman
Kwara state Accountant-General, Alhaji Suleiman Ishola has been elected the new chairman of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) for Ilorin and district society.
Speaking during his investiture in Ilorin on Tuesday, the new ICAN chairman said the institute would provide technical support to Kwara state government in its quest to build a progressive and caring society.
Alhaji Ishola also said his leadership would partner with and support the state government by contributing to positive public policy, as well as support the government to ensure that the ongoing transition to International Public Sector Accounting Standards (IPSASs) was pursued to its logical conclusion.
He also said the institute would sensitise public and private sectors about their march towards accrual accounting (IPSASs) and International Financial Accounting Standards (IFRS), respectively.
On plan for Accounting students in the state, the new ICAN boss said, "We also intend to technically support students in the state through seminars and workshop on the importance of the accounting profession.
"We shall also ensure that higher institutions in Kwara state are connected to the national body of ICAN to enhance academic collaboration and synergy and sustain the ICAN Special Study Centre in Ilorin", he said.
