Ahmed, others urge INEC to extend PVC distribution

Date: 2014-08-19

Kwara State Governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed; the Minister of National Planning, Dr Abubakar Sulyman; and the senator representing Kwara-South senatorial district, Senator Simeon Ajibola, have called on the Independent National Electoral Commission to extend the period for the distribution of the Permanent Voter Cards in Kwara State.

Ahmed, who spoke through his Commissioner for Information, Mr. Tunji Moronfoye, in an interview with our correspondent, in Ilorin, on Monday, stated that many registered prospective voters had not collected their cards.

INEC had distributed the PVCs in Kwara State between last Friday and Sunday amid hitches.

Ahmed said that Friday was not convenient for Muslims while Sunday was not convenient for Christians.

Sulyman and Ajibola called on INEC to extend the period of the exercise in order for more people to get their cards.

The call came on the heels of a similar call by a PDP chieftain in Oyo State, Mr. Seyi Makinde, who called for the extension of the exercise in Oyo State, on Monday.

A statement by Makinde’s media aide, Alhaji Akeem Azeez, called for the extension of the exercise for two days even as it urged Nigerians to turn out for the exercise.

Makinde said, “I want to appeal to the authority to extend the closing date for the exercise for two more days so as to enable INEC cover a lot of ground on the exercise.”
