Fish farmers get 30,000 fingerlings in Kwara
The Kwara Agricultural Development Project (KWADP) has distributed over 30, 000 fingerlings to fish farmers in the state under the West African Agricultural Productivity Project (WAAPP).
It would be recalled that under the same project, the state Commissioner for Agriculture, Barrister Anthony Towoju, penultimate week, flagged off the maize distribution to crop farmers in the state.
Farmers in the state under the aegis of All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN) and Catfish Farmers' Association of Nigeria (CAFAN) benefitted from the scheme.
Speaking with newsmen after the distribution exercise, the Seed Officer, KWADP, Mrs. Dorcas Taiwo, said youth and fish farmers were targeted for the inputs so as to empower them in their business and alleviate their sufferings.
"In order to let the input fall directly into the hands of the fish farmers, we chose to carry out our homework very well so that hijackers and non-farmers would not take advantage of it," Taiwo said.
She said strict monitoring and evaluation mechanism had been put in place to ensure regular visit to their farm locations.
