Kwara, FG, foreign firms to boost power supply
Governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed, has said that the state government is partnering with the Federal Government and some foreign firms to boost power supply and distribution in the state.
He identified the power as a critical sector of the economy but noted that surprisingly it had been bedeviled by enormous problems.
Ahmed, who was represented by his deputy, Mr. Peter Kisra, spoke on Wednesday on the sidelines of the inauguration of two 2.5MVA, 33/11kv injection sub-station at Agunjin/Abayan, Ifelodun Local Government Area of the state.
The project which was awarded to Messrs Unique Civil and Electromechanical Engineering Limited at the cost of N42,878,640.00 will serve about 36 communities in Agunjin District.
The governor stated that as a responsible and responsive administration, the government would continue to collaborate with FG to holistically address the challenges and improve the state of power supply in the state.
He added that the sector would continue to receive priority attention from the present administration, as part of the government's strategy to reduce the cost of doing business in the state in particular and in Nigeria as a whole.
He added that such a feat would enhance the standard of living and the economic well-being of the populace.
The governor said his administration was conscious of the importance of energy in facilitating integrated rural development. He added that the government was taking a holistic view of the sector.
According to him, the government will focus on the exploitation of alternative energy sources. He stated that efforts in this regard were not only to reinforce power supply but also to promote agro-processing ventures and cottage industries, especially in off-grid locations.
