Offa: 'FG has no regard for religion, scholars' - TMC

Date: 2012-05-02

The Grand Mufti of The Muslim Congress (TMC), Sheikh Dhikrullah Shafii has accused the Federal Government of relegating religion and scholars to the background. Shafii, who made the accusation while delivering a lecture on Tafsir of Suratul-Asr (the Qur'anic chapter on time) at the just concluded Khuruj Fisebilillah and Medical Caravan, organized by the TMC in Offa, Offa Local Government Area of Kwara State yesterday, said the situation contributed to lack of proper handling of the Boko Haram issue.

Shafii alleged that government only recognizes religious scholars when they want prayers for electoral victory.

"After securing that, they dismiss the scholars and give them only the opening and closing prayer slots at state functions. Last year, government instructed the National Hajj Commission to reserve 1,000 hajj seats for marabouts whose only assignment to Saudi was to pray for the president's re-election", he said.
