Unuanel clears the air
Kwara United technical adviser, Samson Unuanel has cleared the air on the news that he masterminded the downfall of the Afonja Warriors to the second tier of Nigerian football.
On Saturday, some aggrieved Kwara United fans alleged that Unuanel was responsible for the club's relegation last season from the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).
But Unuanel however rubbished such accusation claiming that he tried his best last term with the Afonja Warriors.
"The problem that took Kwara United to relegation was not my fault, but some fans who beat the assistant referee in our Week 29 game against Warri Wolves.
"We were in the best position to win the league title before three points and three goals were deducted from our points and that was where our trouble began.
"I made a vow that I would get a continental ticket last season, and I started well with United not until when the Kwara United and Warri Wolves melee occurred.
"We were the only side that won three away games last season in which Kano Pillars who emerged champions only won an away game and we also maintained the first four on the table before the Warri Wolves incident.
"I am not a failure and it was some people who never wanted us to succeed that caused the problem for us last season," Unuanel said to supersport.com through the club's spokesman, Olayinka Owolewa.
Unuanel also took the time to speak on the insinuation that he was the one that relegated Ocean Boys from the Nigeria's top flight.
"Ocean Boys had financial problem and that was what led to them being expelled from the league as you would remember that they failed to honour some games which is automatic relegation under the NPFL rule.
"I have left Ocean Boys before their problem began and I was never the rationale for their downfall," he stressed to supersport.com
Meanwhile, the chairman Kwara United supporters club, Oba Suleiman revealed to supersport.com that himself and his crew would support Unuanel as United seek redemption next term in the National League.
"We are not against Unuanel because we know where our problem came from last season and we would support him next term for him to take us back to the Premier League," Suleiman said to supersport.com.
