'Independent judiciary, panacea to corruption'

Date: 2013-12-23

Kwara State Grand Khadi, Justice Abdullahi Harun, has stressed the need for a strong, effective and independent judiciary to stem the tide of corruption and develop the country.

Justice Harun who stated this in a chat with newsmen in Ilorin said corruption has become a cankerworm that has eaten deep into the fabric of Nigeria. He noted that a society which operates with a weak, corrupt and influenced judiciary where people take laws into their hands hardly develops.

He said the Nigerian judiciary is trying but more effort needs to be put in place and all hands must be on deck to sanitize and reduce corruption to the barest minimum if not totally eradicated in the society.

He charged Nigerian leaders to endeavour to provide effective security by creating enabling environment just as he implored the masses to be law abiding so as to ensure tranquility and peaceful co-existence.
