Team Lagos won the first gold medal in the swimming event of the ongoing Sterling-Bank sponsored National School Sports Festival (NSSF) tagged Kwara 2013.

The medal came through John Faith, who returned a time of 3m 11.34secs to win the 200m free style for Primary Schools, while three bronze medals followed in quick succession.

To win the gold, 10 year-old John Faith, a pupil of Ipakodo Primary School in Lagos, defeated Ondo, Cross Rivers, Anambra, Ogun, Kwara and Kaduna states.

In the 50 meter breaststroke for girls in primary schools, she again won the bronze medal to add to the initial gold medal.

In handball, Kwara State defeated Oyo State 24-4 to claim gold medal in the girls' U-13 handball event. Both teams had to play the final as the only team registered for the event.

Coordinator of handball in Kwara, Peter Jimoh said the victory was well deserved as the players showed understanding.
