The Kwara state government has unveiled plans to empower unemployed youths in the state with funds and farm inputs as part of its wealth creation agenda for them.

The measure which would be on a full time basis is part of the grand Kwara Agricultural Master Plan (KAMP) put in place by the state governor, Dr. Abdulfatah Ahmed to create wealth and reduce unemployment in the state.

Governor Ahmed disclosed this at a special youth focused media chat held at the Governor's Lodge, Government House, Ilorin.

He stated that government's responsibility was to create policies that would drive the economy, explaining that in order to achieve the objectives of youth empowerment; it has embarked on the enumeration of youths who would be placed into various skills acquisition schemes in different sectors of the economy including Agriculture.

According to him, government set up the Malete youth farm with the aim of training youths in agriculture, pointing out that some of the youths have already graduated and have been given funds to set up their own farms across the state.

"Already, they are being compartmentalized into crops and locations and are expected to go to their locations to become change agents in the agricultural sector," Ahmed affirmed.

He noted that the success recorded would now enable his administration to begin expansion on the scheme by choosing people from each of the 16 local governments who would largely become "change agents".
