Date: 2017-04-07

The National leadership of the Radio, Television, Theartre and Arts Workers Union of Nigeria (RATTAWU) has expressed its support and solidarity for the Nigeria Labour Congress in the bid to win the battle for the New Minimum Wage for the Nigerian workforce.

The National President of RATTAWU, Comrade Kabir Sanni Garba Stated this when he Paid a courtesy visit to Micheal Imodou National institute For Labour Studies

Comrade Kabir Sanni maintained that the clamour for the increase in new minimum wage was as a result of the purchasing power parity of the naira against the dollar which puts the naira at a laughable margin, urging the government to take decisive steps towards ensuring a new regime of new minimum wage in the country.

Comrade Sanni stressed that the new minimum wage would only serve as a bench mark in which the union would leverage on to ask for the enhanced Media Salary Scheme to serve as a succour to the hazardous nature of the media industry.

He however solicited the synergy between RATTAWU and Micheal Imodou Institute for Labour Studies in the area of training and retraining of media personnel towards ensuring effective switch over to digital broadcasting.

In his remark, the Acting Director General of the Institute, Doctor Fatai Babatunde Onaeko praised the leadership of RATTAWU for the visit, noting that Micheal Imoudou Institute had trained over thirty thousand workers both of the public and private sectors of the economy since it started operation in nineteen-eighty seven.

Dr. Onaeko added that the Institute had developed remarkable competencies in the areas of industrial relations, collective bargaining, trade union leadership, media and entrepreneurship skill, promising to sustain the tempo

He emphasized that the institute is guided by the tenets of the President Buhari's administration's change agenda and anti corruption through commitment to transparency , accountability, inclusion and equity.

Dr. Onaeko however expressed his support for RATTAWU in the area of training and retraining of their members as he promised to explore new frontiers and consolidate on the existing relationship between the Institute and RATTAWU.
