70 clerics pray over Saraki, Abdulraheem 's feud

Date: 2013-07-08

No fewer than 70 imams, Islamic scholars and about 1,500 youths prayed for hours in Ilorin on Sunday over the alleged cold war between a former Governor of Kwara State, Dr. Bukola Saraki and  Chairman of the Federal Character Commission, Prof. Oba Abdulraheem.

Sources had alleged that the Presidency had penciled Abdulraheem as the arrowhead to remove Saraki as the political leader in Kwara State.

They had claimed that Saraki failed to nominate Abdulraheem for a second term as the Chairman of FCC. But according to them, Abdulraheem was able to get himself re-nominated through the assistance of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator Pius Anyim.

However, Abdulraheem, they said, is currently facing a great hurdle to get the Senate's confirmation as Saraki, who is currently the Senator Representing Kwara Central, had allegedly vowed to ensure that Senators from the state and the state's machinery of the Peoples Democratic Party would block Abdulraheem's confirmation by the Senate.

The muslims clerics and scholars as well as the youths, said to be loyal to Abdulraheem, had converged on Ansarul Islam Primary School Okemale, Ilorin, to pray for an end to the alleged cold war and for the confirmation of Abdulraheem by the Senate.

The Organizing Committee Chairman of the event, Mallam Akeem Saka, said the youths of the community were not happy with the alleged friction between Saraki and Abdulraheem and prayed God for the duo to reconcile.

He urged wealthy and privileged Nigerians to work for the betterment of the people, growth and development of the society.

An Islamic scholar, Abdulrazaq Alohunmata,  in his lecture, called on political officers and other wealthy individuals to use their wealth and influence to impact positively on the less privileged.
