KWSG to Complete 13 Water Projects in April
The Kwara Government has said it would complete work on the 13 new water projects across the three senatorial districts of the state by the end of April.
The state Commissioner for Water Resources, Alhaji Abubakar Idris, made this known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ilorin on Wednesday.
Idris said the projects, which were awarded in August 2012, were aimed to alleviate the acute water shortage experienced in some parts of the state.
He added that work on the projects was over 90 per cent complete and expressed optimism that the contractors handling the projects would deliver by end of April.
Some of the benefiting communities, he said, include Pampo and Afon in the Asa Local Government Area, Obbo-Aiyegunle in Ekiti Local Government Area, Gwanara and IIesha in Baruten Local Government Area.
Others are Agbeyangi in IIorin East, Kaima in Kaima Local Government Area, Lafiagi in Edu Local Government Area, Rore and Amberi in Irepodun Local Government Area.
Idris said that additional two water works would be ready for completion by May at Share, headquarters of Ifelodun Local Government Area, and Tsaragi in Edu Local Government Area.
He said that 230 boreholes had been sunk in the three senatorial districts since Gov. AbdulFatah Ahmed, assumed office.
He said that the monthly sinking of borehole in each ward in the state would be a continuous exercise to ensure the provision of portable water to all nooks and crannies of the state.
“Since water is life, the state government will continue to ensure its provision to all communities in the state regardless of political inclinations or background of the beneficiaries,” Idris said.
He advised the benefiting communities to always guide the projects against vandalism and theft, and advised the communities to adopt maintenance culture.
According to him, this will allow government to concentrate on other areas of need of the populace, hence bringing democracy dividends to door-steps of the electorate.
