NPFL: Kwara United Hold Enyimba in Aba
Kwara United did well to hold host Enyimba to a goalless draw in a week seven game of the Nigeria Professional Football League played in Aba.
United have lost their week six fixture in Ilorin to a less fancied Nasarawa United, having won one game away at Sharks, but rose up to proof a better form against a highly rated Enyimba on Sunday April 14, 2013.
Amazed
Enyimba fans were amazed to see former captain Okey Odita lead Kwara United to the pitch, and the expectation from the visitors became high.
United never showed any sign of playing away, as they rose up to the challenge from the blast of the whistle in Aba.
The coach Samson Unuanel handled United were forced to make an early change following the injury of Sabiru Omayayi, and he was subsequently replaced with Saka Habeeb with just 18 minutes into the game.
Enyimba’s effort was not well utilized, as Razak Aliyu’s impressive move could not be rounded off in the 22nd minute. But Kwara United grew stronger, and Evans Iyoro's long range effort hits the bar to deny the visitors the lead.
The home side now needed to make a change, and it was Ekwuruibe Ndubuisi who replaced mis-firing Siman Yusuf. The chances of both sides were wasted, and the first half ended goalless.
Yellow card
United keeper Suraj Aiyeleso was booked in the 56th minute for time-wasting, and two minutes later, Nojeem Olukokun was introduced to replace Abu Azeez who has played below expectation on the night.
Uche Ndukwe dazzles Evans Iyoro much to the delight of the sparse Aba fans after which Ifeanyi Edeh headed wide from close range, but the score remained unchanged despite the introduction of Enyimba’s Kingsley Sokari who came on for Amanfor Chimezie in the final ten minutes.
Kwara United now share nine points with Enyimba, from seven games played this term.
