Kwara Communal Clash: Igbominas Call for Probe
Omo Ibile Igbomina, a socio-cultural organisation of Igbomina clan in Kwara State, yesterday condemned Sunday’s attack on their people in Ganmo in Ifelodun local government area of the state, describing the attack as diabolical and senseless.
Addressing a press conference in Ilorin, national president of the association Dr. Samuel Atolagbe called on the state governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed, “to as a matter of urgency wade into this ugly incidence that has now become a common occurrence”.
The group called for a comprehensive probe of the violent attack with the intent of bringing the masterminds to book, saying the inquest would “reassure the Igbomina in general, both at home and in Diaspora of our safety and security”.
The president who recalled that this was the fourth time the crisis would be occurring appealed to the state government, well meaning individuals, corporate bodies and religious groups to come to the aid of our good and law abiding people of Ganmo whose houses and properties were unwholesomely destroyed”.
Bloody fighting between Igbomina aborigines and settlers in Ganmo community over the traditional stool of the town left two people dead according to the police and properties destroyed.
The planned installation of the community monarch, Oluganna of Ganmo, which the state government suspended on Tuesday was said to have ignited the age-long clash between two sets of Ganmo indigenes, one belonging to Igbomina and the other affiliated to Afonja Descendants of Ilorin.
The government also warned that anyone caught fomenting trouble in the community would be severely dealt with by the law enforcement agents.
