Kwara to Host Science Exhibition to Tackle Energy and Security Challenges
The Kwara State Government has concluded arrangements to organise a science exhibition competition aimed at encouraging secondary school students in Kwara Central Senatorial District to develop innovative solutions to challenges in energy and security.
The programme, scheduled for May 13 to 20, 2026, will take place at Queen Elizabeth Secondary School, Ilorin, with daily sessions set for 10:00 a.m.
In a statement issued on Monday by the Press Secretary of the Kwara State Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development, Peter Amogbonjaye, the initiative is driven by the Kwara State Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development as part of efforts to strengthen STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) education in public schools.
Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Lawal Olohungbebe, said the initiative is designed to shift students from theoretical learning to practical innovation that addresses real societal problems.
He said, "The idea is to get our students to think critically and apply what they learn in classrooms to solve real-life challenges, especially in areas like energy and security."
Olohungbebe explained that the exhibition would encourage students to design solutions around key development concerns such as power generation, national security, environmental sustainability, healthcare delivery and food security.
According to him, the administration of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has continued to prioritise education reforms and investment in innovation-driven learning to prepare students for future opportunities.
"The government is committed to building a system where young people are equipped with the skills needed to compete globally in science and technology," he added.
Olohungbebe further noted that the competition would help develop students' research capacity, teamwork and problem-solving skills while exposing them to innovation-based learning.
He said the exhibition would also serve as a platform for discovering young talents capable of contributing practical solutions to Nigeria's energy and security challenges.
The event will feature student projects and presentations across thematic areas, including security innovation, energy solutions, environmental protection, clean water and sanitation, healthcare innovation, and food security through science and technology.
