Prince Saheed Popoola, the executive chairman of Offa Local Government whose election was annulled, has said he and his party have accepted in good faith the Friday ruling of the Appeal Tribunal which upheld the decision of the lower court that fresh election be held in the council within 90 days.

Popoola was until the annulment of his election the only council chairman elected on the platform of the opposition ACN.

"We have our misgivings about the whole thing. But since the ruling of the Appeal Tribunal is final on this matter, we accept it in good faith as members of a political party that cherishes rule of law and public peace," Popoola said in a statement he issued in Offa shortly after the ruling.

"But our opponents should make no mistake about the resolve of the Offa people to always express and defend their voting rights and, God willing, I am confident of our people's overhwhelming support and victory in Offa even if election is held 100 times.

"We urge our people to be law-abiding and peaceful. The occassion calls not for mourning but for renewed energy to mobilise the indomitable people of Offa against political servitude, oppression and Stone-age mentality to keep people under a particular fiefdom. Our people must know that the coming election is a test of their will to choose between freedom and political servitude."
