Five out of the 2,096 youth corps members of 2012 Batch 'A' who served in Kwara and Delta states lost their lives during the period of service.

The scheme also lost the former Head of its Public Relations unit in the state, Elizabeth Ndueso in a motor accident.

She was said to be coming from Abuja to Ilorin on Tuesday to hand over to her successor and park her  belongings when the vehicle in which she was traveling collided with another one leaving her sustaining serious injury.

The State Coordinator of NYSC, in the state, Ngozi Ezekwe, broke the news of the death of the three corps members at the passing out parade of the batch at the Ilorin Metropolitan Square, yesterday.

In his remarks at the parade, the governor, AbdulFatah Ahmed, admonished the corps members to go into the society and make the ideal of the NYSC their guiding principle and change the society positively.

Represented by the Head of Service, Alhaji Mohammed Dabarako, the governor added, "As agents of social change, you must be ready to continue the good work you have started with the NYSC scheme. I entrust you to the most powerful hand of God Almighty and pray He sees you through your future endeavours.

Eyewitness account said that the accident occurred around Igbodo Community, yesterday, at about 9:30 am when the 18-seater bus lost one of its tyres and crashed into two stationary trailers which crashed into the bush path.

LEADERSHIP gathered that the 18-seater bus with registration number AX 213 XX white coloured left Benin, heading towards Onitsha with the NYSC members and other passenger believed to be market women.

Expectedly, the NYSC victims, (male and female) were on their way to Asaba for the passing parade out when they met their untimely death.
