NAFDAC Pledges to Rid Nigeria of Substandard Products
Dr Paul Orhii, Director-General (D-G), National Agency for Food, Drug Administration And Control (NAFDAC), on Thursday said the agency would rid Nigeria of unwholesome and substandard products.
Orhii also gave an assurance that the agency would remain undeterred in its operations in the overall interest of the citizenry.
The D-G said this in Ilorin at the NAFDAC Consumer Safety Club (NCSC) for secondary schools in the state.
Orhii, represented by Mrs Phebean Odu, Deputy Director of NAFDAC in Kwara, said the agency introduced the club in schools to inculcate the culture of quality among young people.
"NAFDAC will continue to resist the activities of unscrupulous elements in the society who acquire wealth at the expense of the lives of Nigerians.
"We shall sustain the fight against counterfeit drugs and substandard regulated products with every legal, technological and social instrument," he said.
He said that NAFDAC would use the club as a re-branding tool that would make every young person a change agent at safeguarding the future of Nigeria.
In a related development, the NAFDAC/NYSC Community Development Service (CDS), group was inaugurated on Thursday, at the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) secretariat, Ilorin.
Mrs Phebean Odu, Deputy Director, NAFDAC, Kwara, who conducted the inauguration, said the aim was to involve the corps members in the fight against drug counterfeiting.
She advised the corps members to educate people in their places of primary assignment on the dangers of drug hawking.
Mr Augustine Udo, Assistant Director, Inspection and Monitoring, NYSC, Kwara, commended the agency on its fight to eradicate fake drugs in the country.
He appealed to NAFDAC to make jobs available to corps members to enable them to serve as foot soldiers in the campaign against counterfeit drugs. (NAN)
